Backup and Restore SugarCRM MySQL Database

Here in this article we are going to show you how to backup and restore SugarCRM MySQL database using different methods.

Let’s start with the first option:

Backup SugarCRM MySQL Database using phpMyAdminCloud Hosting

Step 1: Login to your cPanel >> click phpMyAdmin.

Step 2: Select the database on the left that you want to backup.

Step 3: Click on the “Export” tab, it will show you the backup screen.

Step 4: Here you can select specific or all files that you wish to backup. Hold “Ctrl” button and click on the files you would like to backup or click on “Select All” to backup all the files.

Step 5: Select the .SQL file format to backup your database in .sql format.

Step 6: Make sure you check/tick these options “Add DROP TABLE, Add AUTO_INCREMENT value, Enclose table and field names with backquotes, Complete inserts, Extended inserts and Use hexadecimal for BLOB” options.

Step 7: Tick the “Save as file” and leave the file name template as it is.

Step 8: Choose the “gzipped” to compress the backup file in that format.

Step 9: Click the “Go” button and save the file to your computer system.

Restore SugarCRM MySQL Database File using phpMyAdmin

Step 1: Again go to cPanel >> click phpMyAdmin

Step 2: Select the correct database and click on the “Import” tab.

Step 3: Click on the “Choose File” button and select the SugarCRM database backup file you wish to restore.

Step 4: Click on the “Go” button and the backup file will get restore.

Now you know the process of backing up and restoration of SugarCRM MySQL database. Let’s move towards the second option.

Backup SugarCRM MySQL Database using Command Prompt

This is the second method to take backup of your SugarCRM database using the command prompt on your dedicated server hosting platform.

Here, you will need to go to the mysql/bin folder to run the following commands. Enter the following commands on your command prompt.

mysqldump -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASE-NAME < database.sql

Make sure you replace the USERNAME, PASSWORD and DATABASE-NAME with your original mysql settings to make it work properly. Also, ensure that there is no space after (-u & -p). The above command will take the dump of your SugarCRM database.

By entering these commands, the database.sql file will be created into the same directory where you run these commands (ie. mysql/bin).

Restore SugarCRM Database Backup File using Command Prompt

In order to restore SugarCRM database backup file using command prompt, enter the following command:

mysqldump.exe -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASE-NAME > (Path for the database backup file)

Replace the USERNAME, PASSWORD, DATABASE-NAME with your actual mysql settings. And put the path of the database backup file after the greater than (>) sign. Using the above command the restoration of the SugarCRM database backup file will be done successfully.

Backup SugarCRM MySQL Database using Admin Backup Tool

SugarCRM has integrated a backup tool in the Admin panel to take backups.

Step 1: Click on Admin >> System section >> Backups . You will see the below screen:

Step 2: In the “Directory” field you will need to put the path of the directory where the backup file will be stored.

You can use the /home/yourcpanelusername/public_html directory to store the backup file.

In the ”Filename” field you will need to put a name for your database backup file with .zip extension.

Step 3: When you done with the above details, Click on the “Confirm Settings” button.

The following message will be displayed on your computer screen: “Settings confirmed. Press backup to perform the backup.” This message means that you can now proceed with the backup of your database through the “Run Backup” button.

Step 4: Click on the “Run Backup” button and after few seconds, you will get another message on your screen:

Backup successfully stored as : /home/yourcpanelusername/public_html/databasebackup.zip.
