Build a Website with simple & easy to use website builder

1. Who is Build a Website for?
Build a Website is aimed for those who want to create a website but do not have the technical experience to do so. Build a Website is a simple, integrated website hosting product that incorporates a full-featured website builder that works through your Web browser (the software you use to access websites) – so, there is no software you need to install on your computer. At just £3.49 per month, Build a Website is perfect for individuals and small businesses.

2. What is included in Build a Website bundle?
Build a Website includes everything you need to get started with your own website – a website address(Domain Name), a website builder tool, and e-mail. All websites hosted through ‘Build a Website’ are hosted on our reliable and redundant “VMware cloud” infrastructure. What this means is that there is more than one back-end server that is making sure your website stays online, and remains fast and responsive at all times.

3. Can I create my own online store using Build a Website?
An eCommerce module powered by a third party eCommerce service provider called Ecwid comes bundled with Build a Website. Their free plan allows you to add up to 10 products to sell. If you would like to list more products to sell through your eCommerce store or would need features like coupon codes, tiered pricing and multi-storefront tracking, you will need to consider purchasing a paid plan which starts at $15 USD per month (which is around £9.75 per month, but this is subject to change as currency rates change all the time). Your Ecwid eCommerce store is integrated directly into your website. All the products which you add via Ecwid will be added to your website’s storefront immediately.

4. Are there any penalties to shift a domain name if the client chooses to leave?
Because Build a Website is offered on a monthly payment basis, we have certain conditions regarding the free domain name which we also offer with the product. If you decide to cancel your product within six months, you will need to pay for the domain name if you would like to use the domain name elsewhere (e.g. move your domain name to another registrar). The rates are fixed from the point of placing an order even if they change in the future. The rates are detailed in our supplementary terms of service (http://www.eukhost.com/build-a-website/fair-usage-policy-supplementary-terms.php). As of writing, the rates are currently £8.98 for generic top-level domains like .com, .net and .org and £10 for country-code top-level domains like .co.uk. However, if you cancel your Build a Website product after six months (or on the sixth payment cycle), the domain name automatically becomes yours meaning you can move it to another registrar and use it elsewhere if you wish.

5. Is there the facility to incorporate sub-pages?
Yes, you can change the hierarchy of pages via the website builder. When you do this, the sub-pages would appear in the sub-menu of a particular menu item.

6. Can contact forms be made functional / embedded in the site?
There is a ‘Contact Form’ module which you can add to specific pages in the website builder. You can add and remove form fields, whether certain fields need to be filled out and whether certain fields are valid (e.g. if it is an e-mail field, it will check whether the e-mail address looks valid – sales@eukhost versus sales@eukhost.com as an example). Lastly, you can change the message which is displayed to users which have sent an e-mail through the form.

7. Is it possible to add imagery / patterns to the backgrounds?
Yes it is possible to use images as the site background, as well as the background for different parts of your website – such as the content area. You can also choose to ’tile’ the background image which would repeat the background image which is useful if you have a patterned background image you’d like to use.

8. Can the site be fully styled (padding, margins, font packaged, etc)?
You can change the padding and margin of various parts of the website builder, such as between the content area and the sidebar(s), the content area and the header, and so forth. You can also change the styling and font used in the menu and change the styling, font and colour scheme of the entire website. There are also many pre-made colour schemes you can choose from. However, you cannot currently change the margin on text which is set as a heading (i.e. Heading 1 or Heading 2 text) and whether links are underlined or not (except for the upper menu, where you can indeed change the styling and appearance of the links – bold, underline, italicised, colour and background – including the appearance on “hover” and when the menu item is “active”).

What is a postback with regards to websites/web development/programming?

A postback is the term to refer to data that has been POSted back by the client to the server. For example when you submit data on an HTML form via your web browser (which is the client here), when you submit that form, a postback to the server occurs. Effectively, the web browser, with its HTTP request for the specified file, will also have the postback data. If you have a PHP application, by using the $_POST and $_GET superglobal variables (or $_REQUEST to refer to $_POST, $_GET and $_COOKIE in one), you can retrieve the postback data within your PHP applications.

A primary example of a postback is a login or registration form – the postback data will consist of the username and password, and any other information fields you require on either forms.

eUK Web Hosting with Dedicated IP for SSL Certificates and VPN Hosting

eUKhost offers a wide range of web hosting service that will provide you with facilities to make use of dedicated IP addresses and the benefits that accompany these.

A shared IP address is the standard option provided with all eUKhost shared web hosting plans, but the option to upgrade to a dedicated IP address for an extra small monthly fee is available. Within a shared or reseller web hosting environment you are able to make use of dedicated IP addresses as you would in a dedicated web hosting environment; this means that a shared web hosting plan is still appropriate for you if you wish to use an SSL certificate.

An eUKhost dedicated hosting plan, whether you choose VPS server hosting or a dedicated server, are accompanied with at least two dedicated IP addresses for your use. As many domain names require at least two nameservers, in a dedicated hosting environment you will be able to make use of a single server to provide you with both nameserver services. Alternatively, you can use each individual IP address to host different websites that require SSL certificates and move your DNS hosting elsewhere.

Within our eNlight cloud hosting services, dedicated IP hosting is a service provided with all virtual machines. When configuring the options for your virtual machines, you can choose to have as many IP addresses as you see as necessary assigned to your servers. With each VM having at least one dedicated IP address, you can treat each VM like an individual server with access being possible through Remote Desktop or SSH.

Dedicated IP Address

A dedicated IP address can be used for a number of different applications, with the main intent being to provide web developers with a more professional end product that customers will be able to appreciate.

The primary application for dedicated IP addresses is for webmasters that wish to use SSL certificates with their websites; in order for an eUKhost SSL certificate to function properly, a website requires its own dedicated IP address so that the certificate can be applied as necessary. SSL certificates are used by many websites to encrypt the information that is sent between visiting computers and the hosting servers so that if hackers do eavesdrop on the connection, they won’t be able to pick up anything that will be of any use to them.

Secondly, a dedicated IP address is required if you wish to setup reverse DNS for your website; this means that if someone was to do a record lookup for your dedicated IP address, the host record returned should match your domain name/website address. Reverse DNS is a required configuration option for anyone developing a web application that is going to be sending emails as a majority of email servers will reject emails that originate from servers that don’t have rDNS configured.

Dedicated IP VPN

Larger businesses may require a VPN so that their external employees are able to connect to the internal company network and a dedicated server or VPS server with a dedicated IP address can be of assistance where this service is needed.

A Virtual Private Network hosted on a dedicated server will benefit businesses that wish to connect multiple sites together so that resources can be shared securely through a central point. A dedicated IP will assist with VPN hosting as it will give all computers that require access one static address that they can then use to login to their business’s corporate network.

There are a variety of VPN daemons available that can be used on eUK Linux servers and eUK Windows servers. eUKhost’s 24×7 support team can assist with the installation and configuration of VPN servers where necessary.

Should I use CSS or not?

In short CSS is a better solution to save bandwidth and have better control over styling. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Why should you use CSS? Very simple answer, because it is the next generation for styling, it saves bandwidth, and because many HTML tags like the underline tag has been deprecated by W3C. Many websites still don’t take advantage of CSS, and once you get to know how powerful CSS is surely you will start using CSS on your website. Imagine if you could put all your styling in a different file, well you can do this with CSS. If you haven’t used CSS on your website before do consider using CSS because there are many advantages of it. And lastly did you know many students learn CSS and take it further into a profitable hobby?

With laws which were recently past in the UK, webmasters have the responsibility to ensure that their website is accessible. Using CSS effectively with modern markup standards as determined by the W3C can ensure your website(s) comply with these regulations, and to ensure your website is accessible as possible.
