Steps to create a backup in Softaculous

Softaculous comes pre-installed with our cPanel hosting control panel. It enables users with taking backups of the applications from the web-based interface. Following is the procedure to secure a backup in Softaculous

Step 1 – Login to your cPanel Control Panel and look for the Softaculous icon listed under Software/Services
Step 2 – Select All Installations
Step 3 – All the installed applications would be listed. You must then choose the application which you intend to backup.

How to Backup and Restore Individual cPanel Account via SSH

Commands such as pkgacct is basically used for backing up cpanel web hosting accounts and restorepkg for restoring cpanel accounts via the SSH or command line interface.

How to create backup of Individual cPanel Account via SSH?

Step 1: Log-in to the SSH as Root user.

Step 2: Enter the following command string on the command line interface:

/scripts/pkgacct username

[Note: The account backup will be created in the current directory you are in.]

How to Restore the Individual cPanel Account via SSH?

Step 1: To restore the cPanel account backups, enter the following command

/scripts/restorepkg username

[Note: In order to restore the data, you need to be in the directory where the backup file is stored.]

Restoring cPanel Shared and Reseller Hosting R1Soft Daily Backups Via cPanel

Usually, the backups on cPanel Shared and Reseller Hosting are performed by eUKhost and are basically stored in a recovery point. In order to restore the data (backup) it is essential to access the recovery point and download the backed up data in a form of an archive.

Here in this tutorial, we are going to see how to restore the backups directly to your cPanel account home directory, on the hosting server where you website is hosted.

In order to access the R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Web Interface, you will need to log in to your cPanel account.

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account.

Step 2: Search for the Feature named “R1Soft Restore Backups” and click on it to access the R1Soft CDP log in page.

Step 3: Enter your cPanel account login details to access the CDP web interface.

Step 4: Once you enter the credentials the following page will appear showing you the 7 Recovery Points with cPanel Data.

7 Recovery Points with cPanel Data

There are three ways you can restore the data:

  1. Restore all Data
  2. Restore the Home Directory
  3. Restore Specific Files and Folders

Restoring all the Data:

Step 1: Click on the “Send to Agent” (img – Send to Agent Icon) icon located in the right column of the window infront of the recovery point you choose to restore.

Restoring the Home Directory:

Step 1: Simply click on the Browse  icon infront of the recovery point you choose to restore.

Step 2: Select the checkbox shown infront of the home directory as shown in the image below:

Step 3: Now to restore the selected directory, click on the “Send Selected to Agent” button as shown in the image below:

Restoring Specific Files and Folders:

Step 1: Click on the “Browse”  icon to browse the specific files and folders you wish to restore.

Step 2: Double click the home directory to browse the specific files and folders stored in the recovery point.

Step 3: Once you double click the home directory, a new window will appear as shown in the image below:

Step 4: Select the checkboxes infront of the files and folders that you want to restore and hit the “Send Selected to Agent” button as shown in the image below:

Step 5: A new “Archive Control Panel User Data” window will appear upon clicking on the Send Selected to Agent button.

The first page is the Introduction page. Click on the “Next” button at the bottom.

Step 6: This is the Archive Type page, where you will have to select the type of archive in which you want to download the data.

You can either choose to “Dowload files as a tar archive” or you can “Download files as a zip archive”. Upon the selection of the “File Type” click on the Next button to proceed to “Archive Filename” page.

Step 7: Here you can enter the desired file name for the “Archive” you wish to download.

Step 8: Click on the “Next” button to proceed to the “Summary” page.

Step 9: Click on the “Send to Agent” button to restore the specific files and folders as shown in the image above.

The R1Soft CDP Agent will automatically restore the archive to the home directory on the server where the cPanel control panel is installed.

Step 10: Once the archive is restored to the home directory, you can extract the archive and move the files to the desired destination.

By following the above steps you can restore your cPanel Web Hosting and Web Reseller Hosting daily backups successfully.

Creating a Policy (Backup) in R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition

In the CDP 3.0 version, the Backup Scheduler is known as “Policy”. The policy feature allows you to schedule policy in two different ways. You can either schedule recurring policies or create one-time policy. In order to schedule a policy (backup) in CDP 3.0 follow the instruction given below:

There are three important things (Agent, Volume and Disk Safe) which must be already created before you proceed with the steps below. If you don’t know how to create them, check out the following CDP 3.0 tutorials:

Let’s proceed. We assume that you have already logged in to the CDP 3.0 server.

Step 1: Click on the “Policy” option listed in the Dashboard menu. (see image below)

Step 2: Next, click on the “Create New Policy” located in the top left pane. (see image below)

Step 3: When you click on “Create New Policy” a new popup window will appear. (see image below)

Step 4: Here you will need to define the following settings:

Identification:

Enabled – Select the checkbox to enable the policy
Name – Enter a name to keep a track
Description – Enter a description to keep a track

Disk Safe:

Agent – Select an agent added for the client’s server
Disk Safe – Select a disk safe created for client’s server

Frequency:

Frequency Type – Specify the schedule and recurrence for the policy (On Demand, Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly).

Step 5: Now, click on the “Create” button in the bottom of the window in order to create the policy.

Step 6: You will see a notification window appearing on your screen showing a message “Successfully created policy”.

Step 7: Hit the “OK” button to add the policy in the policies list.

That’s it!

Creating Disk Safes in R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to create disk safes in CDP 3.0 enterprise edition.

We assume that you have successfully connected to and logged in to the R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Server.

Step 1: Go to Dashboard menu and click on “Disk Safes”. (see image below)

Step 2: In the top left pane under the “Disk Safes” menu, click on “Create New Disk Safe”.

Step 3: Once you click on “Create New Disk Safe” a new popup window will open. (see image below)

Step 4: Here you will need to enter the following settings:

Identification:

Name – Enter a name for Disk Safe

Agent:

Agent – Select an agent from the drop-down menu

Disk Safe Location:

Volume – Select (the) correct Volume created from the drop-down menu. See How to Create Volumes in CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition ?

Compression:

Compression Type – Select a compression Type. For example: “QuickLZ”.

Devices:

Automatically add new devices
Protect Storage Configuration

Select both of the above options.

Step 5: Next, hit the “Create” button to proceed.

Step 6: When you hit the create button, a notification window will appear showing message “Successfully created disk safe!” Click on “OK” to finish.

That’s it!

Creating Volumes in R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to create volumes in R1Soft’s CDP3 Enterprise Edition.

We assume that you have connected to the CDP 3.0 server and logged in.

Step 1: In the Dashboard menu, click on “Volumes”. (see image below)

Step 2: Now, click on “Create New Volume” in the Volumes menu located at top left pane. (see image below)

Step 3: Once you click on “Create New Volume” a popup window will open: (see image below)

Step 4: Enter the following settings:

Identification options:

Name – Enter a name for the volume to identity it while assigning a volume to a disk safe.
Description – Enter a description for the volume.
Volume Path – Enter a new or existing folder path to place the assigned disk safes in this folder.

Quotas:

Quota Type – Select “On Disk Size”
Soft Quota - Enter a minus 2 figure of your backup plan size. For example: if a client purchased 20GB backup space, then enter Soft Quota 18GB.
Hard Quota – Backup place size

Groups:

Here you can assign a group(s) to the volume. Select a group from the drop-down menu and hit the “Add” button.

Users:

Here you can assign user(s) to the volume. Select a user from the drop-down menu and hit the “Add” button.

Step 5: Once you are done with the Volume settings, click on the  “Create” button at the bottom of the window to create a new volume to the system.

Step 6: If the folder doesn’t exist, it will come up with a notification window. You will need to confirm your request by clicking on the “OK” button. (see image below)

Step 7: When you click on the “OK” button, after a few moments you will be informed by a notification window, if the Volume is created successfully. (see image below)

Step 8: Hit the “OK” button on the notification window and the Volume will appear in the “Volumes” list.

Creating an Agent in R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition

Following are the steps you need to follow to create an agent in your R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition.

Step 1: Open your web browser and connect to the CDP 3.0 Enterprise Edition and log in using your login credentials.

Step 2: Click on the “Agents” button shown in the Main Menu located under the ‘Dashboard’ in the left pane of the page.

Step 3: Now, click on “Create New Agent” shown in the Agents menu located in the top left pane.

Step 4: Once you click on “Create New Agent” a new popup window will open allowing you to set the following things:

Description – Enter a description for the agent.
Host Name – Enter a host name or IP address of the agent.
Port Number – Define a port in order to connect
to the agent.

Step 5: For this particular agent, you can set the Group’s special permissions. However, the groups’ permissions can only be changed when:

  • Adding an Agent
  • Editing an Agent
  • Adding a Group
  • Editing a Group

Step 6: Select a group of your choice and define the special permissions for it. When you select a group you will see several boxes in the “Groups”:

  • Full Control – gives you the ability to control everything mentioned below.
  • Editing agent’s settings
  • Browsing agent’s recovery points
  • Manipulating disk safes for agent
  • Editing agent’s users
  • Manipulating policies for agent
  • Viewing agent’s task in the task history console
  • Restoring files from agent’s recovery points

If you want to remove a group from the agent properties window, simply click on the “X” icon shown in the red color.

Step 7: Same way as “Groups”, you can set special permissions for the “Users”.

Step 8: Once you are done with all the settings, click on the “Create” button at bottom of the window.

Step 9: After a moment you will see a notification window showing “Successfully created agent” message. Click on the “OK” button.

Once the Agent is created it will appear in the Agents list and the Operating System (OS) of your dedicated hosting server will be detected automatically.

How to Restore backups in R1Soft CDP 3  ?

Eukhost’s R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) 3 Backup system enables users with restoring  files and folders to your account at barely few clicks. The BackUp plans can be availed as an addon service by anyone.

The R1Soft console panel offered by us can help you restore files, folders or even the entire disk from the Disk Safe Panel. The below steps must be followed for restoring files onto your CDP account.

Step 1 – Use the URL provided by us to access the R1Soft CDP3 console. Use the username and password to login.

Step 2 – You would be redirected to the Dashboard Area as shown below:

Step 3 – Look for the option titled “Agents” at the bottom-left of the screen

Step 4 – Click the “Host Name/IP” link
Step 5 – You’d be presented with the Agent Details such as Name, Host Name/IP and Port Number

Step 6 – You must now look for the option titled “Disk Safes”. A list of all your Disk Safes would be displayed as shown in the following image.

Step 7 – Click the Magnifying Glass located at the extreme right to check various details about the Disk Safes

Step 8 – Now inorder to start with the restore process you must look for the option titled “Recovery Points” listed on the left sidebar and click it.

Step 9 – Looking at the date of creation, you would notice two restore options ie. ‘Bare Metal Restore‘ and ‘Browse
Note : Bare Metal Restore would restore all the files onto your server, whereas if you intend to restore only few selected files and folders, you must click the Browse Button

Step 10 – Upon clicking the Browse option, you’d be presented with the files and folders their individuals details such as Name, Attributes, Size and the Modify Time as shown in the following image.

Step 11 – Now check the boxes against the files and folders that you intend to restore and hit the button “Restore Selected” located at the top of the same screen. Alternately, you may also download particular files and folders on your local machine in the same way except you’d need to hit the “Download Selected” button situated at the top of the screen.

How to Configure Backup Schedules using R1Soft’s Backup Agent on an Offsite Server?

The R1Soft’s CDP Solution allows you backup your files in two different ways on an offsite server. In this tutorial we are going to see how to configure backup schedules in two different ways.

  1. Configuring a Full Backup every month on a specific day, retaining 4 recovery points.

How to Create a Backup Using R1Soft’s CDP Agent on an Offsite Server ?

In this tutorial we are going to see, how to create a backup using the R1Soft’s CDP Backup Agent on an offsite server.

Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the login URL to connect to the CDP Server.

Once you enter the login credentials the “Hosts” page will load automatically as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Click the “Hosts” icon on top of the Main page as shown in the above image.

Step 3: Now, you need to select the proper “Host” Under the Host Name column or you can use the filter option to find the appropriate host.

Once you click the appropriate Host Name, it will open up with a new window. See image below:

Step 4: Hit the “Backup and Restore” button as shown in the above image and the following backup wizard will open.

Step 5: On the above page, click on “Schedule Backup” button as shown in the above image.

Once you click the “Schedule Backup” button, it will open the “Schedule a new Backup task” page as shown in the image below.

Step 6: Here on this page you will need to define the following settings:

Save Task : Tick the check box to save backup task.
Enabled : Tick the check box to enable backup task.
Description : You can enter a desired name for your task but make sure the name is different from the existing scheduled backup tasks.
Recurrence : In the drop-down menu you will need to select the schedule and frequency for the backup task. In the drop-down menu you will find options like (Now, Minutely, Hourly, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly). If you wish to run an immediate backup, leave the option default as “Now” and it will start to backup your data immediately.

Only keep the last x recovery points : Tick the check box in order to enable the feature and enter the desired recovery points.
Defragment data files when finished : Tick the check box if you want to defragment the data files upon completion of the backup task.
Verify recovery point when finished : Tick the check box to verify Recovery Point when backup task is finished.
Devices to Backup : If you want to backup all the devices, then you can select “All active devices” or if you wish to backup only the selected devices, then you can choose “Only selected devices” option and tick the devices you want to backup.

Step 7: Once you are done with the settings, hit the “OK” button to save the backup task as shown in the image below.

That’s it! If you have scheduled a backup task to run immediately, the R1Soft’s CDP Agent will start to take backup of your files immediately on an offsite dedicated hosting server.
